A walk in the Garden in Queenstown, NZ

No jet lag at all. I slept when I wanted on the plane and watched movies when I didn't. Once settled in the hotel, I went for a walk in the beautiful gardens and got some great photos. No need to comment...I'll just show you.

What a great little town.






It is a tourist town set on a beautiful lake and a lovely little park.






I went for a great walk in the park with my new camera in hand...






And got some great photos...more on that in the next post...






This was the beginning of a great trip

First day in New Zealand

Slept great and hoping for no jet lag.

There's inspiration everywhere...even the hotel lights.

Went for a walk in the park.

It's fall here.

 There's a beautiful rose garden and I am loving my new camera.

2 days til New Zealand

Ok...not really 2 days because I won't be there til Saturday. But it is 2 days before I leave. How many hours does it take to get there? Well I leave noon on Thursday and get there at 3pm on Saturday. I think it's about 23 hours in the sky...but I don't really know. Why bother counting? After the first 6 hours I know all I'll want is to get off the plane...probably not a good idea since I'll be over water ;) but ya do what ya gotta do.

So if you want to travel with me on this trip, follow the blog and I'll post photos, blips, and life lessons along the way.

New Zealand Here I Come!

In just a few days I will be sitting on several planes for hours....many many hours....and I will eventually end up in New Zealand. How exciting is that! I will be teaching at the Remarkable Symposium.

I taught for this group a couple years ago and it was absolutely fantastic. The Quilters are creative and fun to be with and I don't expect they've changed at all :) I'll make sure I get some great VidCast footage so you can see what this event is all about.

I'm sure you'll want to see and hear all about it, so be sure to stay tuned to this blog. I will do my best to post ...when I can find Internet access...

Go!Baby Play Day

What's a Go!Baby? It's a die cutter for fabric. My friend, Karen Kay Buckley, gave me (yes, she sent it to me) one in December. She knew I was excited about it at Quilt Market. Well actually I was excited because it could cut Perfect Circles that I thought would team up "PERFECTLY" with HER Perfect Circles (TM).

Well I played and cut circles (because that's the only die I had). But then I began thinking creatively "couldn't I cut twice and get some other shapes? By repositioning a cut circle, I could cut marquis shapes and crescents.



And so I did and ended up with lots.

Well luckily I had a fusible on the back (which wasn't always a good idea because they stuck together). I experimented with a symmetrical design by creasing the fabric and adding the shapes...



Then I played with the leftovers in an asymmetrical design...Too much fun. Fused it down and now I have to figure out how I'll get those edge to stay put.

I'm hoping to add lots of dotZ to both projects. It'll be great to show in my NEW "DoodleZenDotZ" workshop - doodling exercises, bobbin embroidery of one design, and lots and lots of dotting techniques with paint.

DoddleZenDotZ

Way back last year (May 2009) my post was about some doodles I had done. After stitching out the design as bobbin embroidery with YLI Candlelight Yarn, I decided to fill it in the dotZ of paint. I had so much fun doing this.

So now I'm developing a new workshop called DoodleZenDotZ. First we'll explore LOTS of different techniques for creating doodle designs. One design will be enlarged and bobbin embroidered. Then we'll explore several different dotting techniques. And finally we'll add the dots of paint to the bobbin embroidered doodle. Everyone will leave with an original design.

I'm scheduled to teach this as a 2 Day workshop at Quilting in the Desert in Phoenix, AZ in January 2011 and then again in New Zealand at the Quilt Symposium. We will have 2 days of too much fun. It will also be available as a 1 Day workshop. I will also have a Design Only (no sewing) version of this workshop.
